Stone Building

Meeting Minutes: June 2, 2025

Attendees: Robin Dexter, Amy Kahn, Ben Kahn, Rena Getz, Paul Roberts, Greg Schwartz, Evan Weststrate

Treasury Report

No update on PO box. Total $7138.15 in bank account.

Some talk about federal/state reporting for 5013c. Amy happy to learn how.

Update on fixes to our mailing list system

Not a lot of updates. The plan is to work with Karen Osborn, who has an extended account for Constant Contact, has volunteered to donate a database for us to use. Other option: SendGrid, which gives free accounts to nonprofits. But the SendGrid account may be too limited for our use.

Evan: It may be worth it to send out $ for an account.

Benefit of constant contact is reminders for donations.

We will investigate updates to our hosting, email, and video conferencing systems. Let’s have an email chain with Ben/Amy/Paul/Evan/John/Robin to make arrangements. Authorization: $500. Approved by vote.

Follow up on the possible Eagle Scout projects

Nothing in progress right now. There is a triple Eagle Scout ceremony at 4pm this Saturday at the Allen Center in West Newton. Scout troop going to Iceland in the middle of July! Troop 205

Cub pack having their Blue and Gold on Sunday at Auburndale Cove. Pack 210

Future projects depend on approval from DCR.

Let’s put something on the website for them.

Summer Picnic

Traditionally the first Tuesday in August. Tentatively scheduled for August 12 at 5:00pm. If possible, at the Stone Building. Depends on construction.

Amy and Evan will make/put up posters. Evan will make a large print of the map.

We can invite our local officials who participated in plans for the Stone Building as a thank you. Anyone from Wellesley or Needham who may want to attend? Greg is going to investigate.

Any updates for Stone Building?

From Greg: DCR was supposed to engage. Evan: It’s been pretty quiet. No signs of construction. Things moved in and out. Erica Aubin is our DCR site supervisor. Greg will find out who to contact and follow up with them. May be Jeffrey Harris, who did the tour of the Stone Building

Tentative Date for Fall Cleanup

Last year’s was October 26. Tentative October 25, 2025

Matters Arising

Newton Highlands Village Day Sunday, June 8

Paul spoke to Mark Loredo, who wants a partnership with the Friends. Mark, Rena, John Rice all met about the same. Her impression is that he will offer more attention to this group and others like it.

Dead tree on Ellis Street side of Hemlock Gorge. Evan will send out an email to inquire about replacing it.

Next meeting will be at the picnic!
