The Friends of Hemlock Gorge’s 40th Annual Fall Cleanup took place on Saturday, October 24, 2020 in very nice weather. We had a very good turnout despite the fact that, as was true of the Spring Cleanup, the event had be socially distanced.

The Friends’ Brian Yates Memorial Dedication
Brian Yates, former Newton City Councilor and the Founder, Past President, and guiding spirit of the Friends of Hemlock Gorge, passed away on March 15, 2019. The 2013 summer picnic took place Tuesday August 6 from 6 p.m. to dusk at Hamilton Place, off Central Avenue/Elliot Street, Needham, MA. The Friends of Hemlock Gorge’s 2012 Annual Fall Cleanup was on Saturday October 27, from 9 to Noon, and it was a huge success. Celebrating the Makers of the Mold
On November 19, 1998 The Friends of Hemlock Gorge gathered at the Newton Public Library to celebrate the online publication of Ken Newcomb’s Makers of the Mold, a history of Newton Upper Falls and the Industrial Age of Hemlock Gorge. The Friends Receive an Award from Historic Newton
On Tuesday, November 16, 2010 the Friends of Hemlock Gorge were awarded a Stewardship and Preservation Award from Historic Newton. The event was held at the Boston College Alumni House and was well attended. To the right is a photo of Friends’ President Brian Yates and Bob Burke, who nominated us.
