Thanks to the efforts of Rep. Ruth Balser, The DCR commissioned a assessment of the structural integrity of the Stone Building, after the Friends had called to her attention our concerns about the state of the foundation and stone work. The report confirmed our concerns and went much further, identifying all areas of concern, providing a remarkably detailed history or the building, and a prioritized set of recommendations to restore the building. It is a remarkably complete and thorough document.
Rep. Balser is now working with the DCR and state authorities to move the restoration forward. Last year she was able to secure $250,000 in state funding for the restoration of the building that remains available and should cover the priority 1 repairs.
