The Friends were honored with a beautification award from the City of Newton in 1997. As recorded in the minutes of our September 9, 1997 meeting, then-President Brian Yates “announced that the Friends are the recipients of an award from the City of Newton for beautification of the Ellis Street Parking Lot. This was presented at the Newton War Memorial Auditorium on Sept. 22.”
