Present
were Brian Yates, John Mordes, Bill Tedoldi, Bob Burke, Evan Westrate, Vaunita
Schnell, Robin Dexter, Site Supervisor Erica Aubin, and Lisa Barstow of the DCR
administration.
To start, Erica Aubin showed us pictures of her children. She also reported that
the light is out at the Stone Building and that her staff is working on it
Lisa
Barstow introduced herself as the DCR contact person for public-private
partnerships like the one we hope to implement to install a new fence near the
stone building. She stated that she would be able to served as the Friends'
conduit to the DCR commissione. She started with the DCR in June and brings a
great deal of enthusiasm and new ideas to the table. She as a background in
media. She can be reached at 617-626-4954. After escribing what she does, she
showed us an internal draft menu indicating that the cost of a 70 foot fence
made to order could be as high as $65,000, but less if approved
off-the-shelf fencing could be located. Lisa explained that the matching program
is 2 DCR dollars matched to 1 community dollar. Accordingly, an FHG investment
of $10,000 could be leveraged to install $30.000 of fencing..
Possible dates for the Fall Cleanup were suggested. It will be October 17 or
November 7. DCR staffling limitations constrain possible dates.
Erica will be getting a new kiosk for Hamilton place
Lisa anncounced that there will be a ground breaking event at Walden Pond for a new visitor center on October 8.
The meeting adjourned at 9 p.m..

Present wer Karen Shanley and her brother, Brian Yates, Vaunity Schnell; Evan Westrate, Bell Tedoldi, Nina Foch and JPM
The meeting began with inquiries about Brian's health. He shared with us that the had had a heart attack and stanet placement, but was now on the mend, though it was touch and go for a while. He is still very tired and has not been able to resume a full workload at the Board of Aldermen.
The meeting was held at the St Elizabeth Center where Karen Shanley announced that she is about to close on purchasing the building and coverting it to a mixed commercial/community use facility. It would function something like the Brighmam House. The local and diocesan church officials are behind the arrangement. Many stories were shared among the attendees about attending religious education classes in the building many years earlier.
We agreed that the cleanup went well, but would not have it in Novermber again as the fallen leaves cover the trash. We all thanked Dunn-Gaherin's for lunch for the volunteers, of whom there were about a dozen.
Karen and Evan reported their progress on the new fence for the Stone Building area. They showed us several proposed designs, and we are waiting on Erica and DCR requirements and a budget.
Karen graciously volunteered to host our December meeting and party at her residence.
Vaunita told us she is working to recover some photos of the gorge that once hung at the local MacDonald's but were put in storage after its renovation.
We concluded by congratulating Brian on his re-election as a soon-to-be counselor.
The meeting adjourned at 8:45 p.m.
